Contains a selection of reviews and articles on theater and acting published by Hazlitt in The Morning Chronicle (1814), The Champion (1814-1815), The Examiner (1814-1817), The London Magazine (1814-1820), which had already appeared in A View of the English Stage (1817) (see) and Criticisms and Dramatic Essays (1851) (see).
Hazlitt wrote a large number of articles on theater in London and in general, but they are all concentrated in a few years and a few great actors. The collection is divided into two parts: the first includes the articles written on a regular basis when Hazlitt was the theater critic for a newspaper or a weekly and had to provide a description or judgment on a single performance or production. The second contains articles written latter for the monthly The London Magazine, containing more general reflections on theater. (See «Scritti sul teatro e la recitazione. Traduzione, introduzione e note Loretta Innocenti», Acting Archives Review, V, n. 9 (May 2015), Introduzione, 12-13.)
New edition with the title Hazlitt on Theatre, ed. by William Archer and Robert Lowe, London, s.n., 1895 (see). Originally had to be the second of a three volume series.

Henley, Vol. 8: Lectures on the English Comic Writers; A View of the English Stage; Dramatic Essays from The London Magazine, London, J.M. Dent & Co., New York, McClure, Phillips & Co., 1903.
